42 KL: Tuition-free Coding School in KL

42 KL, Malaysia's first private, non-profit coding school with free tuition officially admits its first cohort of students, The school is non-traditional and innovative in that it uses a peer-to-peer and project-based learning approach, without teachers or lecturers. It makes up one of the many '42' schools network in the world; with the first one being established in Paris, France in 2013 and has since expanded to other cities like Seoul, Tokyo, Lisbon and Finland.

42 KL is the outcome of a public-private collaboration, between the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Sunway Education Group (SEG) in recognition of the importance of creating and nurturing top tech talents needed to fuel Malaysia's future digital economy.

It is of 42 KL's philosophy to offer this education opportunity to any Malaysians, regardless of socioeconomic and educational background. Over 50 percent of the students come from the B40 income group and are aged between 18 and 49 years old. The site has received over 3000 applicants since its launch in July 2020. So far, 75 students have enrolled successfully to the 12-months Core Programme, and 225 applicants are currently completing a 4-week bootcamp called the Piscine (Swimming Pool).
