Updated: May 26, 2021

Location:
Shah Alam, Selangor
About the initiative:
During the period of Ramadhan this year, the local authority of Shah Alam (MBSA) in partnership with WWF Malaysia NGO, Pemuda GEMA, MARDI and UiTM's Harmony Club conducted a Food Waste Management - Food Rescue program at the Ramadhan Bazaar at Seksyen 17.
The purpose of the program was to curb food wastage (excess food that were unsold) as well as to reduce avoidable food waste that would otherwise be sent straight to the landfills.
The program was carried out from the 18th of April to the 1st of May 2021. Excess food unsold collected on the first day amounted to 42.1 kg while a total of 16.4 litres of drinks were collected from the vendors. As a result of this collection, two activities were done:
the excess food were given to those in need
food waste / organic waste were collected to be composted
