Unused bicycles given new life
City: Kuala Lumpur
Initiative: Unused bicycles given a new life
Type of response: Mobility
Target group: Urban poor, refugees, vulnerable
About the initiative:
Urbanice Malaysia coordinated a bicycle donation drive to urban communities in need. In light of the impending lockdowns on June 1st 2021, 40 bicycles were given out to the more vulnerable urban groups in the city. The bicycles were given to Dignity School staff, Refugee communities, Food Panda walkers and to urban poor communities through Pertiwi Soup Kitchen as well as the Anjung Kelana Homeless Centre. Cycling needs to be seen beyond its recreation purposes as many of those who dwell in the city have limited transport modes.
Start date of commitment: 1 June 2021
